Over the almost 20 years I have been a Financial Planner, I have heard the following 8 comments (in varying shapes and forms) from almost every family I have helped.
- “We knew we needed to do something, we just didn’t know what.”
- “We had a go at investing a couple of times ourselves and it didn’t work, so we’ve been too scared to go back and try again.” (or couldn’t find the motivation)
- “We asked our accountant who we should see for help but they didn’t really give us a firm answer”
- “We don’t know anything about investing!”
- “We worry about our family’s financial security a lot, but we just haven’t found the time to do something about it.”
- “I wish I had done this 20 years ago.”
- “I didn’t realise it could be so simple!”
- “It feels great knowing we have a plan Ben.”
Now, I have put a lot of thought into what these comments mean, and what I have concluded is that everyone knows that they:
- Need to do something;
- Need help to make good decisions;
- Feel great when they know their family is going to be financially secure.
So, for the month of June, reflect upon which of the following best resonates with you:
- How good it feels to know I have a plan for my family to be financially secure!
OR
- Would knowing that my family has a plan to be financially secure, be enough motivation for me to make time to engage someone to structure and put a plan in place?
Have a great month,
Cheers
